The Ludomètre FTv3 : our motivations

The normative request :
GARTEC was founded with the aim of designing equipment to check the conformity of a recreational facility equipped with damping floors. This inspection is based on the EN1177 standard.
This standard has evolved over the years, and is increasingly demanding. Rightly so: this standard deals with a very serious subject, security. In order to meet the demanding criteria for updating this standard in July 2018, GARTEC has developed the FTv3 Ludomètre.

The customer’s request :
GARTEC does not just stick to the characteristics required by the standard. Thanks to our more than 20 years of experience in the field, we are able to capitalize on the regulated feedback from the biggest players in soil control, French and European, who use the Ludomètre every day. We are therefore well placed to better understand our customers’ needs.
We have designed our FTv3 Ludomètre so that it not only meets normative expectations, but also meets the needs of our customers, namely: reliability, durability, profitability, autonomy, and ergonomics.

The GARTEC positioning :
Our company has been a sure value on the European market for about ten years. The FTv2 Ludomètre has for nearly 15 years, met market expectations without the need for any technological modifications.
Therefore, in order to strengthen our position, we could not maintain our gains. We want our FTv3 Ludomètre to be THE reference in the field of damping soil control equipment.
This is why, in designing our new Ludomètre, we have sought to innovate and offer solutions that are open to future controls.

Gartec connect, what is it ?
GARTEC CONNECT is the control interface with which you perform your tests. Connected to your Ludomètre, it is a web interface. So, enjoy our services without having to install an application on your computer.
What are the advantages ?
- User login from any digital media
As a result, it is now possible to access data collected in the field instantly from any location.
For example, a manager can have access from his office to the tests performed by his on-site technician, almost immediately. He can write or correct the reports himself, online.
However, that is not all. This intelligent interface also allows:
- To monitor the life of the Ludomètre : date of purchase, commissioning, warranty deadlines, maintenance plan (checks, calibration) with date and reminders, number of impacts achieved, number of recharge cycles…
- To manage the Ludomètre fleet : access to default and customizable dashboards, analysis of Ludomètre and user productivity…
- To organize a customer base specific to the activity of controlling damping soils.
- To follow the rest of the GARTEC equipment : all purchased equipment is inventoried and registered in your equipment database (template kit EN1176 for example)
- To follow the evolution of the normative requirements, and the needs of the customers : thanks to the web format, this interface is open to the future with the possibility of updating it according to the needs.
GARTEC CONNECT is available as a license. The basic license includes the application for monitoring, reporting, and tracking the Ludomètre. Optional report customization and production management are also available. A license works for 1 Ludometètre.

Updating your FTv2 Ludomètre :
The FTv3 Ludomètre has been designed with special attention to our customers. This is why GARTEC has provided the possibility of producing FTv3 Ludomètre from an existing FTv2 Ludomètre.
Therefore, if you are a GARTEC customer and you have an FTv2 Ludomètre, we propose to update it :
FTv3 Update
- We keep the aluminium cup, which we modify lightly
- We keep the accelerometer, if its condition allows it
- We replace all acquisition and feeding technology
- We change the cover and replace it with a new version that makes it possible to make the Ludomètre waterproof
- We change the width, which has evolved into a wireless version
- We guarantee this update for 2 years
- We provide you with a certificate of compliance with EN1177 2018 and XP S54-215 standards

THE STANDARD EN1177 2018
The EN1177 standard, summary…
This standard, drafted by AFNOR (French Association for Standardization or “Association Française de Normalisation”), describes the operating procedure and the characteristics of the equipment required for testing to determine the attenuation of an impact on damping ground.
Evolution of the standard in 2018…
Before 2018 :
Before the last edition of the standard, the test consisted in determining whether the free drop height of a set or equipment (usually given by the manufacturer) did not exceed the critical drop height at which a child can sustain serious head injuries. In order to compile this critical drop height (HCC), it is necessary to find the average height for which the HIC value (Head Injury Criterium) is 1000. Various measurements were thus made on the potential impact zones around the installation. A control was therefore considered satisfactory when the free drop height was lower than the critical drop height, determined by the HIC value.
After 2018: the standard has been refined.
- Addition of a 2nd condition : in some instances, in place of the HIC condition. This is the gmax condition, corresponding to the value of acceleration at the time of impact. This value must not exceed 200g. It is therefore possible that, to determine the impact attenuation of a ground, the critical drop height may be defined according to the gmax condition when it reaches 200g, even if for the same height, the HIC is less than 1000. This is particularly true on thin soils.
- Addition of a 2nd test method : A measurement is made directly from the given free fall height. If the critical value of the HIC (1000) or gmax (200) is reached or exceeded, then the impact is not sufficiently mitigated and the installation is not compliant.
- Modifications of some material characteristics. For example, since the revision of the standard, the measurement acquisition frequency (accuracy) must be at least 20,000 kHz (compared to 10,000 KHz).
These are the main changes to EN1177 in 2018. These are the basis for the specifications of our FTv3 Ludomètre.
